ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
Meet Tamra Barrett
As a native resident of Garland County, there is no greater community for my family and me to call home. I was born and raised in the Lake Hamilton area. If you hear any stories about me as a child, they often center around my belief in enforcing the rules and playing fair, which set the stage for my interest in law.
I graduated from Lake Hamilton High School in 1983 then received my B.A. in English and Psychology from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. From there, I attended the University of Arkansas School of Law and served as Vice Chair of the Board of Advocacy and member of the Order of the Barristers. I earned my Juris Doctorate in 1994.
From traveling the region conducting safety training for labor unions to tracking legislative bills and serving as a workers comp legal advisor, I have had the opportunity to engage with countless hardworking citizens.
Since 1997 I have split my time between my private defense practice and serving as a public defender. Licensed to practice in Arkansas, I'm a proud member of the Arkansas Bar Association. In addition to my legal practice, I act as Dean of Professional Studies at Champion Christian College.
Volunteering within the community is especially important to me. Through assisting with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, volunteering at the battered women's shelter, working with Recovery Point Ministry, and mentoring in Judge Vicki Cook's Juvenile Court I have gained additional insight into the issues and obstacles facing families in our community.
My family and faith are of the utmost importance to me. For the past 18 years I've been married to my husband Mike and I'm the proud mother of three: Samuel (15), Jacob (15), and Jillian (12).
Thank you for visiting the site. I greatly appreciate your consideration and support.
